Deliverables

Product Design
Packaging Design

For this brief, I was challenged to create a brand in a random product category made by a random musical artist. My category was dental hygiene and my artist was U2.

Research &
Inspiration

My research included that on U2, their lead singer, Bono's, organization Project (RED), and the dental hygiene market.

I made the basic brand kit based on my research and design choices, I decided on the brand name Giving Grin due to the band's association with philanthropy

and Project (RED).

The color scheme came from the band's history of grayscale album covers, with a red accent hinting at their War album, and because of the organization.

I originally made the box label as one image but

found it wouldn't wrap properly on all four sides of the 3D model in Adobe Substance Stager.

Instead, I used two separate 2D files, each containing two panels of the box. This worked best.

Product Shots

The final packaging lineup included the toothpaste tube, the tube's box, and the mouthwash bottle.

This project was challenging, as my first packaging design, but I had fun with it, and that made the time fly. I tried my best to pay attention to detail and make the product as realistic as possible.

The mouthwash wasn't originally part of the plan, but I got talked into the idea. I decided to add activated charcoal because of recent trends and to make the liquid black to match the
brand's aesthetic.

Overall, I'm really happy with the entire product line and how they work together.

Takeaway
This project has been my favorite to date. It introduced me to packaging design and more advanced 3D design, while the creative "client" assignment made for an inspiring and rewarding challenge!
